This course will serve as an introductory to increase awareness of suicide amongst young people and explore preventative strategies. Participants will review statistics, identify risks and warning signs and identify ways to increase protective factors. Course will end with participants engaging in small group activities to improve rapport/relationship building and practicing how to ask the question of suicidality.

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Participants will explore the statistics related to deaths by suicide and recognize the prevalence amongst children and adolescents.
  2. Identify the warnings signs, risk factors and protective factors of suicide.
  3. Summarize key steps in preventing suicide.
