Registration for Both Classes

This two-class series will help participants better understand the impacts of trauma, the hope of growth and change, and the power of resilience. Take all three classes or register for classes individually. These classes have been developed in response to the increasing amounts of violence and trauma in our community and society at large. Participants will develop an understanding of how trauma impacts individuals, families, and communities. Participants will also develop skills to more effectively interact and engage with individuals, families, and communities who have or are experiencing trauma.

Hurt: This session will focus on the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study, which explored the connection between childhood adversity and health problems later in life. Participants will engage in interactive activities to learn about how early childhood experiences impact brain development. Activities and discussion will focus on operationalizing how trauma impacts neurodevelopment.

Heal: This session will help participants to identify survival behaviors as symptoms of trauma. Real life examples will be used to teach participants how to respond in a trauma informed manner. Resilience is the capacity to bounce back and recover from challenging experiences. Many people think of resilience as part of someone's personality or character. In reality, resilience can be taught and can be learned. This helps us to understand that healing is possible for the traumatized individuals, families, and communities we work with.

Hope: How do we continually engage with others as they work towards growth and change in their lives? Through self-care. Self-care assists us in recharging and refueling so that we have resources available to us when engaging with others. Without self-care we are prone to burn-out, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma.
