Providers often experience great anxiety and face many challenges when working with clients at risk for suicide. During this interactive workshop, participants will view video demonstrations, engage in group discussions and have the opportunity to practice learned skills in order to improve their confidence and develop competencies in the prevention, assessment and management of suicidality. 


  1. Assess their personal attitudes and approach when working with individuals at risk for suicide.
  2. Define terms related to suicidality.
  3. Articulate risks and protective factors and understand the biopsychosocial model of suicide.
  4. Evaluate risk assessment tools and questions to elicit accurate assessment information.
  5. Apply clinical judgment to formulate risk and document rationally.
  6. Identify the benefits of collaborative treatment and safety planning and recognize the importance of means reduction counseling and follow up.
  7. Receive a brief overview of the evidenced-based treatment options for individuals at risk for suicide.
