OUTPATIENT COUNSELING

Major life events, traumatic experiences and mental health challenges can significantly impact a person’s ability to successfully function at seemingly easy day-to-day tasks. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or stressed about daily activities, then outpatient counseling could make a positive impact on your life. Outpatient counseling can help individuals and families address the effects of trauma, improve stress management skills, and reduce or eliminate the need for psychiatric hospitalization. Through outpatient counseling, clients experience personal growth by learning skills to process loss and prepare for the future.

      Family Therapy
Families can benefit from therapy when they experience an event that puts stress and strain on the family relationship. During family therapy, your therapist will work with the entire family to address specific challenges that affect the mental health of the family, and together we’ll work toward improving family relationships.

Through therapy, we’ll work with your family to promote understanding and collaboration while treating the root cause. For families with young children, we’ll also work together to practice and strengthen parenting skills by creating opportunities for positive interactions, as well as provide support and resources in areas that will strengthen your family’s bond.

Just a few reasons families may seek out family counseling are recent events or experiences that effect the whole family, such as divorce, financial hardships and the death of a loved one, etc.

We also might recommend family therapy for families that struggle with conflicted relationships. This can include families dealing with depression and anxiety, substance abuse, chronic illness or increased behavioral problems in children and young adults.

Based on your family’s needs, we can also help direct you to additional tools and resources that can help contribute to your family successfully reaching your counseling goals.

We also offer more intensive in-home family therapy solutions, like Functional Family Therapy, which is a court-referred program, that work to keep families together.

      Co-Parenting Counseling
Co-parenting counseling is for parents who are separated, divorced or are in the process of splitting up. We understand that parenting can be challenging, and parenting a child without a personal relationship to their other parent can often create additional obstacles and challenges. During co-parenting counseling, we’ll work with both parents to create emotionally healthy and physically safe parenting strategies. Co-parenting counseling allows both the opportunity to talk about the best interests of their child(ren) in a neutral environment. During counseling, some areas of focus are:

      • Communication
      • Compromising
      • Conflict resolution
      • Parenting styles
      • Setting boundaries – such as discussions related to court, finances and discipline.

      Play Therapy
Play therapy is geared toward children and is a therapeutic process that provides them with a safe, protected place to begin emotional healing from stressful events, such as divorce, bullying or trouble at school, a family death or physical illness and traumatic events, as well as gain new skills through social and emotional learning.

During therapy, the child will be encouraged to explore life events in a manner and pace of the child’s choosing. During this time, the child is assessed to determine how they experience the world, communicate and react to events and people. Play therapy can help children:

      • Become more responsible for behaviors and develop more successful strategies.
      • Develop new and creative solutions to problems.
      • Develop respect and acceptance of self and others.
      • Learn to experience and express emotion.
      • Cultivate empathy and respect for thoughts and feelings of others.
      • Learn new social skills and relational skills with family.
      • Develop self-efficacy and thus feel better about their abilities.

      Substance Abuse Therapy
As drug and alcohol use and abuse increase due to life pressures and lack of healthy coping skills, structured therapy becomes necessary as will power has been proven to be ineffective. Counseling is an essential part of drug and alcohol abuse treatment for many people. Cognitive behavior therapy, family counseling and other therapy approaches can help people recovering from drug and alcohol addiction stay clean. Psychotherapy can also treat the other mental health conditions that often contribute or co-occur with drug and alcohol abuse.

      • Those struggling with addictions can self-refer themselves to our counseling options; However, we also accept referrals from other referral partners, such as the court.
      • We will provide options to coordinate with medical professionals when medication treatment is deemed necessary for mood issues associated with the addiction struggles. If detox is necessary, referrals can be made to help with appropriate services which are available locally.
      • Primary focuses of therapy will help the individual to understand the connection between mental illness and drug and/or alcohol use as strategies for coping. Developing healthier coping skills while slowly eliminating the cravings can be a goal for success.

We also offer substance abuse treatment for youth under 18 years old who have abused drugs and/or alcohol or who live with family where addiction is present.
