2018 KANSAS PUBLIC POLICY PRIORITIES
Cornerstones of Care is dedicated to partnering for safe and healthy communities. We leverage decades of expertise and certification in trauma-informed care to provide a seamless range of quality prevention, treatment and support services to children and families in Kansas and beyond. We strive to effect positive change in our communities, raise awareness and give a stronger voice to those in need, and deliver a fully integrated approach to care.
To Enhance Caring for Children, We Advocate For:
- Providing adequate funding — including Medicaid reimbursement — that covers costs and incentivizes excellence in delivery of human services.
- Expanding public/private partnerships in human services, particularly front end/prevention services that are family-centered.
- Exploring how technology and digitization can proactively improve child welfare through greater access to integrated care and services.
To Enhance the Mental Health of Children, We Advocate For:
- Funding evidence-based models and interventions such as child abuse prevention programs, including parenting/home visitation and family relationship education programs.
- Providing public funding for early detection and treatment of children identified with mental or emotional health risks.
- Funding for family-centered, community-based mental health services to reduce the removal of children from their homes and, when necessary, ensure a prompt and safe return to a family setting.
- Preventing maltreatment through investment in services that influence social determinants of health.
