Keeping Children Safe & Families Together

As part of the national Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month in April, we’re asking the community to #pledge2prevent child abuse, not only in April, but throughout the entire year.

Our #pledge2prevent Goals

  • To transition the discussion of child abuse to a year-round effort to partner for safe and healthy communities by focusing on keeping children safe.
  • To educate the community on the contributors to child abuse and neglect.
  • To engage and motivate the community in taking action that leads to the prevention of child abuse and neglect.
  • To move toward reducing the incidences of Adverse Childe Experiences, also known as ACEs, or reported instances of child abuse and neglect.

How You Can Help

  • #pledge2prevent child abuse in your community.
  • Take the online pledge to protect the health and well-being of children in your community.
  • Educate yourself and others on child abuse and neglect.
  • There are many ways to educate oneself on the impact child abuse has — not only on the individual, but on the community as a whole.
    • Join the conversation on Twitter using #pledge2prevent and #childabuse. You can also read up on related content from @OurCornerstones, @yesICANorg and @PCAAmerica.
    • Read our blog post from Colby. As a child, Colby was subject to abuse from his step-father. Learn more about how abuse can affect a person well beyond their childhood years.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest news.
  • Stay current on the latest organizational updates, informational tools and resources, volunteer requests, and stories of hope and healing by signing up to receive our newsletters! Receive them directly at your home (print newsletter — three times a year) or in your inbox (electronic newsletter — monthly).
  • Spread the word. Tell us how you #pledge2prevent.
  • Submit a video telling us how you #pledge2prevent child abuse in your own community. It can be something as simple as using your smartphone to record a video of you saying, “I pledge to prevent child abuse by ...”
    • Any videos submitted will have a chance to be featured on our social media channels and within our monthly eNewsletter
    • Videos can be submitted via email to Carol Grimaldi at carol.grimaldi@cornerstonesofcare.org or via WeTransfer or Dropbox if they exceed the file size allowed by standard email providers.
  • Participate in our Week of Impact.
  • We host a Week of Impact in April, during which we share daily actions anyone can do to help prevent child abuse in their communities. Most of these action items will take individuals 5–10 minutes each day. Though already completed for 2017, be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter to learn about next year's Week of Impact.
